WHO WE ARE

Berine and Bokwe Foundation (BEBOF) is a duly registered, women-led, non-profit association, founded in May 2017. Our creation was driven by the urgent need to address the profound suffering and neglect experienced by society’s most vulnerable members. We are committed to reaching out, supporting, and empowering those often forgotten: abandoned widows, orphans, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and the underprivileged. As a women-led organization, we infuse all our work with a deep understanding of social dynamics and a fierce commitment to equity and justice.

A Holistic Mission: Restoring Hope and Dignity

Our mission is comprehensive and aims for total transformation: to bring hope and smiles while empowering our beneficiaries across spiritual, economic, social, and financial dimensions. We believe that true support must be holistic, addressing not only material needs but also emotional and structural barriers. This integrated approach ensures that the individuals we serve are not just temporarily aided, but are equipped to rebuild their lives with confidence and long-term sustainability.

The Pillar of Economic Empowerment and Self-Reliance

A primary focus of BEBOF is fostering economic independence for abandoned widows. We specifically identify and mobilize these women into resilient, mutual-support networks known as self-help groups (SHGs). Through the SHGs, we facilitate access to micro-loans—a crucial start-up capital that allows them to launch and manage their own small businesses. This strategy directly combats the cycle of poverty and dependency, ensuring that the women build their own financial autonomy and capacity to care for their families. (Our soap production training initiative is a prime example of this hands-on, skills-based economic empowerment.)

Beyond financial aid, BEBOF is dedicated to building the inherent capacity of our entire target population. This involves capacity building programs that go beyond basic skills, focusing on entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and essential life management. Crucially, we provide vital psycho-social, emotional, physical, educational, and mental support. We understand that healing from trauma, displacement, and neglect is a prerequisite for success. Our sensitization and support programs are designed to help beneficiaries process their experiences, rebuild their self-esteem, and successfully reintegrate into their communities with renewed hope.
